Results, though unofficial. That will come soon...
Ok, so I'm tired of waiting on the race results to come online.
I was going to wait and give you guys the official time and
number of entrants and so forth, but I'm ready to give my report. I'm EXCITED!!!
Well, the day started out absolutely fantastic. The temperature
was perfect--temps were in the lower 60s, like 60 or 61, no wind,
and the humidity was high, but not relevant. The race took place on a running/biking trail we have here in Omaha. It's called the Keystone Trail, and it's pretty much flat, with a couple of rolling hills.
Overall it was an easy run for me. I don't know why, but for the
first 4 miles I felt like I was just running another training run, like
I was out there running my usual 7:53 minute miles. Haha, not
quite.
I was at the front of the pack from the gunshot. That's one of
the two or three times I've actually started that close to the front. When we started there were only about, oh, 10 guys with me, and one girl. The girl fell back almost immediately, and I ended up running with these guys for the first mile of the race. It was deathly quiet; I found out that none of the people that far in the front of the
pack make any noise running . I started to pass a couple of guys after the first mile or two, and I was doing it with ease and feeling great!!! I mean this was after going to eat Mexican food last night for dinner, which I thought for sure was going to end up biting me in the as$. And although it wasn't a problem during the race, I'm still feeling it now
So, anyway, at around mile 2 I passed a guy who said, "Okay, here
we go." Never saw him again, but what did that mean? I don't know.
Then at mile 3 I started closing in on another guy, but I didn't want
to take over too quickly. I wanted to make sure I was still feeling
powerful enough to actually gain some ground, as this guy was a
runner I'd seen in the last couple of 10K's I'd run in, and one of those times he actually came back and shot ahead of me. Feeling fine, I was planning to pass him at the turnaround, which was at
5K. I got up behind him, gave him some distance, and he says, after about 30 seconds, "Well, if you're going to pass me, pass me." He had been turning his head and glancing at me the entire time I was behind him. I thought, well, okay, I don't want to make him mad or worse, so I ran on past him.
I felt great at this point--came up on on the turnaround point and
took it with ease. I started on my way back, past 15 to 20 guys right
away, and most of them said "great job" or "way to go!" It was nice
because I've never had that before—very encouraging. I heard the
same from the majority of the runners the entire way back, which helped tremendously, I believe, in my motivation. Even people that weren't in the race, people just on the trail walking or running, said
the same (I had seen them the first time around).
I reached mile 4 and realized I was starting to breathe a little heavier, but not too bad. Unfortunately, however, I had forgotten to hit the split on my watch for the third mile. So, as of now, I only know the first two miles, and the fourth mile. I don't have the fifth either, as there was no mile marker for the fifth mile. So here's what I have for miles 1, 2, and 4:
6:54
13:46

There was a 1-mile remembrance walk that was to start a bit after the 10K, so while all of us were running in, there were walkers from
the walk coming in on the same path—like 20 or so walkers, all in
my way as I rounded the end of the path to run in. Probably the last
.10 of a mile there were walkers all along the path. It did not make
for good racing, believe me. I thought I was going to run into them.
It really sucked.
As for the official time, I don't know what it is. However, my father-
in-law did record it on his camera, and while I can't see the time-clock clearly, I think it says 41:46.
So, in other words, I PR'ed!!! This was supposed to be a training run, one that I would do as a bit of fun for my week of lower mileage.
I NEVER expected this.
My last three races have been 10K's. The results are as follows:
June 24, 2007 – 44:05
August 5, 2007 – 43:38
August 25, 2007 – 41:46 (unofficial)
Turns out I was also Overall Woman, First in my Age Group,
and 6th finisher overall. I don't know how many entrants there
were, like I said, I'll have to post that information later. I'm
guessing there were probably 50? 75? entrants.
Overall, a very good race. I'm so excited about the Omaha
marathon, now. Can't wait to give that report…

Ted E. Bear Hollow 10k
In case anyone cares to note, I have a 10K this morning.
It's called the Ted E. Bear Hollow 10K.
AND, I have only 29 days until the marathon.
I've been training pretty hard. The last few weeks
have consisted of lots of running, LOTS, and the
past three Saturdays I've run 20, 22, and 24 miles,
consecutively. Over the past few weeks, during the
week, I've put in some 15, 17, and 18-milers. It's
been fun, but I'm ready for this marathon now!
Anyway, report in a bit-
